Hi Lawrence,
My slide show example won't be perfect for you because it requires the
entire list of photos being passed on construction. That is an obvious flaw
in its architecture that I hadn't thought of until now. Oh well.
But you could still probably use
com.forestandthetrees.slideShow.SlideShowSlide class- to load your slides.
It loads in the background, so you could pre-load the next minute's photo.
First off, you're going to need a clock in Flash though. You might want to
take a look at Colin Moock's sample code MVC Clock here...

Then instead of (or in addition to) advancing the clock hand, you'd want to
change the slide
Hopefully, that's enough to start.
