The speculation around hardware support for Flash Player seems to be
constant... there may, in future be some form of hardware support in future
versions of Flash but at the moment the desire from Adobe to keep the player
download small and the ability of the Flash Player to render content in
EXACTLY the same way on every system is the driving force behind there NOT
being any hardware support so far...

...As soon as there's hardware support there will be a need for a variety of
low-level libraries to try and provide everyone with a similar experience
and we'll all start having the sort of issues faced by C++ developers about
which system to use which we're lucky to be free from right now...

...for a long time a lot of Actionscript developers have been hacking away
at producing 3D solutions for flash, either for production jobs or just for
our own amusement... now PV3D has come along everyone's talking about
hardware support and wanting more, more, more! It'll probably come at some
point in the next couple of years... until then we have to be sneaky, crafty
and clever in the way that we develop applications in order to produce what
we want...

Developers who worked on early systems like the spectrum and amiga had to be
clever and find ingenious ways to use the limited resources at their
disposal. We're in the same position now as they were then but we have
access to all the tricks that they came up with. Let's stand on the
shoulders of those giants and create some cool stuff. Then when hardware
support comes along we'll be all the more skilled for it and take it even
further.

But that's just like, you know, my opinion, man....
