Hey Thomas
currently, the ISM in pv3d2.0 is setup to only react to 3d object
interaction, and interaction through a MovieMaterial with interactive set to
true. In the case of MovieMaterial, mouse events are passed to the source
movie using VirtualMouse which is an implementation that hooks into the
event model of any instances that extend the UIComponent class.
The problem is that the guy i was replying to was asking about using a
SimpleButton, which does not work with VirtualMouse. I'm not sure why the
Grden wasn't around to answer the poor guys questions, but he's certainly
done so before:
http://osflash.org/pipermail/papervision3d_osflash.org/2007-November/013543.html
and on his own blog here (check comments)
http://www.rockonflash.com/blog/?p=74
the only reason i replied to the post was because the responses given were
misleading and ultimately wouldn't have worked. The response i gave was
relevant, and offered a solution that is viable. Of course, you could just
use a Button object (inheriting from UIComponent) and have things work just
as well in pv3d, but maybe this guy was a designer and didn't want to lose
his simplebuttons. or maybe he'd just started poking around 3d in flash and
was trying to get stuff working the way he wanted. Either way, i fail to see
how my post could be considered spam.
I haven't had a chance to check the list for a while and my replies have
come all at once, but only when they are relevant to the topic of discussion
and where i feel Away3d may make someones life easier. We don't have a
generic 3d list where the topic can be about anything related to flash and
3d (yet). But it has always been acceptable in the past to talk about 3d
related topics on this list, not just those relating to Papervision.
I think the problem you draw attention to is the perception (still) that
Away3d is a rival of Papervision. This is simply not true, and never has
been. I love what Papervision has achieved and we have mutual respect for
each other. Away3d is just an alternative - a way of doing things that takes
a different approach. And that's it! we even make claims to being 'derived
from papervision' on our googlecode page. What sort of rival does that!?
i hope this clears up my recent posting activity, and we can get back to the
far more important task of helping to create the best 3d content in flash
with the minimum of fuss
