Hello folks. I joined the list and downloaded the
classes last week for a 3D flash project I was in the
middle of when someone pointed this amazing work out
to me..
That being said..and having played with the demo ship
and Deathstar I was thinking about various items i
could contribute and had a look around at all kinds of
algorithms the last few days.
Is anybody working on a lighting system? An infinite
directional might be a good place to start.
Is anybody working on a terrain generator? That would
seem to be implementable. Generate a perlin noise or
use a bitmap.. Make a plane and push the points in
the Y direction according to luminancce and the base
to height ratio chosen by the programmer.
Howzabout a sandbox for various ship creation ala
Spore.. you pick engines with a given thrust and
attach to a hull woth a given weight and strap a
weapon system on kinda thing to start with. The ships
max velocity along vector would then be limited by the
thrust versus weight ratio. The snap-on parts like
engines or wongs could be mounted at a given polygon
on the hull that is the same dimensions as the wing or
engine strut mount. The classes for this sandox
creation could be reimplemeted to put together any
simple 3d structure given the parts and the base to
attach to and a few rules for creating base and
parts..
I was also thinking of various rendering schemes so
for example you could render parameterized worlds or
an interior on the fly client side to avoid pinging
the server for bitmap downloads..
I use Cinema 4D on OS X btw.. I have been modelling
and animating and writing Xpresso Node scripts for
several years and started 3D back with Infini-D. I
mainly code Flash for cash as the 3D/SFX market in
Atlanta is moribund to say the least.. This is totally
cool and I am excited to see how far this can be
pushed.
I saw some messages that could be generated randomly
pop up here and there in the emal digests. i have a
suggestion "Your browser does not support the HyperNet
HoloTunneling Protocol. Please upgrade to Golem
MemeStream 6.66"
Best Regards
