Hi Stephen,
There's a completely new virtual machine in Flash Player 9 that runs
AS3 bytecode. It sits alongside the legacy virtual machine that runs
AS2/AS1 bytecode.
The new VM is much faster since it doesn't have to worry about legacy
bytecode support all the way back to the earliest days of Flash.
