Cool maybe if I get time I will try to learn some sandy as well, I think they are both great tools for doing 3D flash and I have no interest in getting into which is better, however I think it would be useful if there was an as2 focus page for papervision, personally I would not have an objection to having it cover both engines, since that is kind of the point of opensource, to share ideas. And it might help see the different work flows involved in using either engine.

I'm sorry for hijacking this thread. Somethings shouldn't be said on a pv3d mailer. But I'm going to go ahead and voice them again...
As for pv3d as2 being more used than Sandy, I really cant say. All I can say is...:
http://vds-communication.com/
http://www.eventagentur.ch/
http://www1.carrefour.fr/minisites/pac/ballonbleu2006/swf/index.html
http://www.waymaster.com/
http://www.quakr.co.uk/viewr/?tag=shabbatagging
It's used.
I also really cant see why anyone wouldn't use it. That's no offense to pv3d as it's a great system for as3, but Sandy wins in as2. Objectively. It's written in a pretty organized way, supports animation scripting, and a lot of neat toys like image distortion. I'm not a big fan of everything they're doing in as3 (init objects should go last in argument lists!), but that's still pretty alpha. As2, however, just plain kicks ass. It lacks collada support, so you have to use ase, but that's my only real complaint.
It has very clear documentation, lots of supporting example code, and is still being developed on heavily. They're about to release v2.0 in AS2.
I'm just saying, don't count out Sandy. It's a great engine for AS2.

I tend to agree with Zeh and would add;
I would not be surprised if Papervision3d as2 has been used on more comercial projects than sandy or papervision3d as3, when ever I have had an issue I found that if I dig down and used lower level classes the engine was very stable. I also found Zeh tweener class very usefull!
I am sure sandy is also really good.

For AS2 I wouldn't use papervision as I dont believe it actually has a stable as2 release, whereas Sandy does. http://www.flashsandy.org/

Added something on players and actionscipt versions for newbies and people wanting to know if Papervision would be suitable for a project. Feel free to edit remove or whatever, just felt that these are some aspects not covered (see below).
I am interested in finding somewhere on the Wiki for AS2 specific papervision, since there are a lot of comercial projects that still require flash 8 and it would be usefull to collate as2 papervision experiances code and examples in one area, I did not find a suitable area to put such a topic???
But it would be usefull to even have an AS2 specific mailing list since I hope to use pv3d on my second comercial app soon.
Anyway change made--
Which flavor of actionscript should I use with papervision, and does it support AS1 and AS2?
