Just read this on the bbc site... this Thompson bloke annoys me but about halfway down he gets interesting - talking about 3D interfaces...
The bbc are usually a good length behind... well... just about everyone when it comes to recognizing trends but here they seem to be catching up a little. The idea of creating a 3D environment built from all your online activities - and being able to interact with it by navigating "with a mouse or a Nintendo Wii-like controller" sounds familiar...
I think I will take a look at the 3D video-conferencing idea after all. And analyzing the content of a person's online accounts with social networking sites with some sort of heuristic to organize it's structure's relationships (Self-Organising Map, perhaps?) into a 3D space is really compelling... taking that google maps thingy a few steps further...
