[Papervision3D] [OT] 3D springing up all over

Hej Richard!

Thanks for the links. I don't really think it's that far OT, although
the canvas scape examples are technically seen nowhere near what PV3D
is doing; that's a raycasting engine, which uses an entirely different
trick to render to to screen, and be that fast. I still think one of
the masters of this trick must be John Carmack. Although I have this
old Amiga AGA game in mind which name I can't remember which was
getting awesome speed and raycasting tricks to do this. (not
alienbreed3d 2, another one...damn my memory...)

I still love all these tricks from the old days to fake 3D, and by now
they just about all done in Flash. Raycasting is done, Mode7 is done.
As an extension to Raycasting I did a 6DOF voxel (2d) engine in Flash
a while back :

The Ajax3D engine really gives a good sense of where they are at in
terms of 3D. Very low poly, small display area. Interresting, but not
really very usable as more as a tech demo at this moment.

I really think this is where PV3D has a head start : it will be usable
in a real world environment as opposed to being a tech demo.

The director demo Christian sent is one of my all time favorites
still. Playing Quake in a browser ? Wow ;-). I wonder when the
Director people pick up on the tricks we are employing for shading,
and realize they can use the Flash 8 filters for their textures. ;-)

Ralph.
