The "BestSkybox" is now a 56 vertex points and 108 polys (tris)
The reg "SkyBox" has only 8 vertex points and only 12 polys.
I have a few other tests I tried, and will try a skyDome eventually as well.
Considering the "BestSkyBox" is to be used as a background for and 3D scene,
I tried to keep it's interference as small as possible.
The 3D Ase file is stripped down to about 27K. The Swf is 67k. The Two files
for Skybox are under 100k, and alot of the 3D code is included already.
I have tried many times, and the smallest zoom I can try to use is about
4.5(as seen in swf) but optimally over 5 (default is 3) and I have even
played with the somewhat "easter egg" negative focus (which may or may not
be useful).
The aim of the "BestSkybox" for me, was to make one that is under 100 polys
(i failed it's108) and try to minimize as much distortion as possible. I
could have kept it under 100 polys if the floor wasn't subdivided as much,
but then there would be more distortion on the floor, in case anyone needed
it to be like the rest of the walls.
However like I said before I have a few tests where the box is more
rounded - almost like either a pill, cylinder, or even spherized, but I
cannot avoid the distortion on the texture. So for each type of shape of
Skybox (box, dome, sphere, cylinder, pill)- a different texture mapping may
be needed.
