I remember a paper published a *long* time ago enumerating reasons why a
real-life navigation analogy wouldn't translate well when applied online.
Specifically, I recall the comparison between "teleporting" (i.e. clicking
on a link to reach a section) and having to actually "walk" there (by
navigating in 3D)... Why should we need to be constrained by real life
issues when we could do things quicker in a virtual space?
That said, I do believe in well-applied 3D in computer interfaces. I just
think we need to break new paradigms and find the right synergy ("bingo!",
someone shouted in the background). ;)
