[Papervision3D] Blender 3D and unwrapping for export - wacky shading??

Hello,
I've recently downloaded a script to export models from Blender 3D to
actionscript (http://www.rozengain.com/blog/2008/01/02/export-your-blender-objects-straight-to-away3d-papervision3d-and-sandy/)
- it works great, however in order to apply a bitmap texture to the
object in PV3D you must "unwrap" the object in blender, but doing so
results in super wacky shading, a non static light source, etc.
Here is my blender object without being unwrapped (but unfortunately,
I cannot add a texture to it because Blender didn't export UV
numbers):

Nice and smooth, has a static light source, and just looks right.

Here is the unwrapped version with the SAME shading/material applied (Phong):

WHOA. Look at how weird the lighting is! The light rotates WITH the
object, too! And triangles seem to flicker in and out of existence!

I want to be able to add a texture to the FIRST object I posted,
because the shading is so nice, and correct looking...
Does anyone know why the heck the shading gets all wacky and bad?
Does this happen with Collada? They are the SAME object, they should
be shaded the same!
Is this something weird with the Blender exporting script? Should I
use Collada? Maybe I can have it export UV numbers without unwrapping
it, resulting in a nice shade?
I really cannot get past this, I just want to so badly be able to add
bitmap textures to the first object, but cannot.
Please, any insight on this would be great!
