I don't think VectorVision makes sense here because you're not really doing
a lot of 3d-transforms on the text. I've noticed that text looks bad in PV3D
when it's scaled improperly, or when there's a lot of scaling stuff in
general....

To speed up your site focus on these three things first:
- Make sure to properly destroy materials that are no longer in use
- Use material.animated, material.transparent only when you really need to
- Pause the rendering engine as often as possible -- ie, when you're doing
2d stuff and no 3d stuff
