[Papervision3D] 3D Drawing tool

I need to build a simple drawing tool but on a 3D plane. The pencil need to
be 3D too and would rotate on its tip as it moves around the page. I need
some direction on how to translate the 2D space to the 3D material. I also
need some advice on how to create a simple 3D model of a pencil (I'm
thinking SketchUp) and then create a material that would colour the model
but allow me to dynamically change the colour on the fly.

Any tips would be appreciated.
