[Red5] n00b Questions

I've been reading, and re-reading, Joachim's awesome How To and Migration 
guides on Red5.  They are currently down, but you can get them via Google 
cache.  A few things were assumed, however, so just wanted to clarify.

1. There is no server-side ActionScript.  You write the server-side in Java, 
correct?

2. What Java runtime should I install?  I have like 1.5 something; is that 
ok?

3. Is there anything like the existing component framework that Flashcom had 
or has someone written something already?

4. Does saving of server-side Remote SharedObjects work?
