much there yet except Robin’s changes and a tiny bug fix.

Robin's patch introduces quite a bit of redundant code between mp3 and wav
import, as well as redundant <wav> and <mp3> elements in the simple XML
(they’re effectively synonyms). The last thing I was doing before starting
to move house was to clean this up a bit, I should be able to continue after
the weekend.
